CAT Form Filled? Don’t Miss These MBA Application Steps

Does CAT registration cover every college? Understand separate applications, programme fees and deadlines before planning your MBA admission.

By Merit bridge career expert

Preparing for CAT 2026 while planning your MBA admission for 2027? Alongside mock tests and revision, there is another task worth your attention: checking individual college applications.

Registering for an entrance exam does not automatically complete every business school’s admission application. Missing this distinction could leave a preferred college off your list.

Here are five common questions answered.

1. Does My CAT Form Cover All CAT-Accepting Colleges?

No. A college accepting CAT scores may still require its own application, programme selection and payment.

For example, MDI Gurgaon and SPJIMR publish separate application procedures. Check each institution’s official admissions page rather than assuming your CAT registration covers it.

2. Should I Wait for My CAT Result?

Check deadlines before deciding. Some institutions close applications before the examination itself.

For the 2027–29 intake, SPJIMR lists November 27, 2026 as its application closing date. MDI lists November 28, 2026 at 5 PM IST. Waiting for your result would miss these published deadlines.

Recheck official pages before submitting, as institutions may issue updates.

3. Does Paying an Exam Fee Cover Programme Applications?

Not necessarily. SNAP, for example, requires candidates to pay the test registration fee and a separate registration fee for each programme they wish to apply to.

Selecting a programme and completing its payment are important steps. Review your dashboard and confirmation messages to understand what you have actually submitted.

4. How Many Colleges Should I Apply To?

Build a shortlist around your academic profile, likely score range, budget and career interests. Include ambitious choices alongside realistic alternatives you would genuinely consider joining.

Before paying, check eligibility, accepted entrance tests, total programme cost and available career opportunities. Applying everywhere can increase expenses without improving the relevance of your options.

5. What Should I Track?

1-Maintain one simple checklist for every programme:

  • 2-Official application link and closing date

  • 3-Eligibility and accepted examination

  • 4-Application fee and payment status

  • 5-Documents or essays required

  • 6-Submission confirmation and reference number

Set reminders before deadlines and keep copies of submitted forms. A payment receipt alone should not replace checking that your application shows as complete.

Prepare for the Exam and the Admission Process

A strong entrance score matters, but it cannot replace a required application. Spend a little time each week reviewing your shortlist so that preparation and paperwork progress together.
