History of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH), located in Baripada, Mayurbhanj, is a government medical institution established with the aim of strengthening medical education and healthcare services in northern Odisha. The college was developed through the joint efforts of the Government of Odisha and the Government of India, with the existing District Headquarters Hospital being utilised as an important teaching and clinical facility. The institution began its academic journey in **2017**, marking an important development in medical education within the Mayurbhanj region. Its establishment was particularly significant for the surrounding communities, as it created opportunities for students to pursue medical education while also supporting the availability of organised healthcare services locally. The college was named after **Pandit Raghunath Murmu**, the renowned writer and linguist associated with the development of the **Ol Chiki script**, which holds an important place in Santali language and culture. From its early years, PRMMCH has worked as both an educational institution and a healthcare centre. The medical college provides clinical exposure to students through its associated hospital facilities, allowing academic learning to be connected with practical patient care. The institution caters to patients from Mayurbhanj as well as nearby areas, making it an important part of the region's public healthcare network. Over the years, the college has continued to expand its academic and healthcare infrastructure. A major recent development was the inauguration of a **650-bed teaching hospital in June 2026**, adding modern facilities, diagnostic services, emergency care and improved clinical infrastructure to the institution. Today, PRMMCH continues to develop as an important centre for medical education and healthcare in Odisha, with a focus on creating a supportive academic environment and improving access to medical services for the wider community.
