About AIIMS Bilaspur All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, is a prominent medical institution established to strengthen access to advanced and affordable healthcare in the region. The institute was developed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), with a broader objective of reducing regional gaps in tertiary healthcare and improving the standards of medical education, training, and research in India. AIIMS Bilaspur functions as an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The foundation stone of the institute was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3 October 2017. The Bhoomi Pujan was subsequently performed on 21 January 2019. The campus is being developed across approximately 247 acres in the Kothipura area of Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, with development planned in multiple phases. The first phase has established a major healthcare facility with a capacity of 750 beds and 41 specialty and super-specialty departments. It includes modern infrastructure such as intensive care units, modular operation theatres, CT and MRI facilities, digital radiography, a cardiac catheterization laboratory, dialysis services, diagnostic laboratories, and blood bank facilities. AIIMS Bilaspur began its academic journey on 12 January 2021 with its first batch of 50 MBBS students. The institute has since expanded its educational offerings, including MBBS, B.Sc. Nursing (Hons.), and paramedical programmes. Admissions to these programmes are conducted through the prescribed national-level entrance and counselling processes. Alongside education and healthcare, the institute has focused on extending medical services to the wider community.
