Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC), located in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, is one of the oldest medical institutions in the state. Established in 1946, it holds an important place in the history of medical education in Madhya Pradesh and is recognised as the first medical college established in the state. The college began with the aim of creating a centre for medical education and clinical training in the Gwalior region. The foundation stone of the college was laid in November 1945, while the institution officially began functioning on 1 August 1946. Its early development was closely connected with Jay Arogya Hospital, which has a much older history dating back to the nineteenth century. This association gave students access to a large clinical setup and helped establish the college as an important centre for practical medical education. Today, GRMC continues to provide undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical education. The college currently admits students to the MBBS programme and offers postgraduate training across several medical disciplines. It also has super-speciality programmes, including courses associated with areas such as neurosurgery and other advanced medical fields. Official college information states that the institution admits around 200 MBBS students each year along with postgraduate and super-speciality students. A major part of the college's academic environment is its association with the Jay Arogya Group of Hospitals. According to the college, the hospital group has around 2,190 beds and provides students with exposure to a wide range of clinical cases. This hospital-based learning is particularly relevant for MBBS students as they gradually move from classroom concepts towards practical patient care. The institution is affiliated with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur, while its academic history also includes affiliation with Jiwaji University, Gwalior. With decades of medical education, a large teaching hospital network and a long institutional history, Gajra Raja Medical College remains a notable medical education centre in Madhya Pradesh.
