Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College (RKGMC), Hamirpur, is a government medical institution located in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. The college was sanctioned in March 2014 under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for upgrading district hospitals into medical colleges. After the development of the required academic and clinical infrastructure, the first MBBS batch commenced in 2018 with an intake of 100 students. The intake was subsequently increased to 120 seats, providing opportunities for more students to pursue medical education in the state. The institution focuses on combining medical education with practical clinical exposure. Its teaching and training activities are supported by the associated government hospital, where students get an opportunity to observe and participate in patient-care activities as part of their academic learning. The hospital currently provides indoor treatment facilities with around 310 beds, while the academic activities are being conducted through the existing academic infrastructure at Hamirpur. Along with the undergraduate MBBS programme, the institution has expanded its postgraduate medical training opportunities. DNB programmes have been introduced in areas including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine, Anaesthesia and Paediatrics. The college has also been working towards introducing additional postgraduate programmes in various specialities, reflecting its gradual development as a centre for advanced medical education and training. A major development associated with the institution is the construction of a new medical college complex at Jol Sappar. The proposed campus is being developed over a sizeable area and is intended to provide improved academic, clinical and supporting facilities as the institution continues to expand. With its emphasis on medical education, healthcare services and professional training, Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College has become an important government medical institution for students and patients in Hamirpur and surrounding areas. Its continued expansion is expected to strengthen both medical education and healthcare delivery in the region.
