Pramukhswami Medical College – About Us Pramukhswami Medical College (PSMC), located in Karamsad, Gujarat, is a prominent medical institution established in 1987. The college was initially affiliated with Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, and became a constituent institute of Bhaikaka University following the establishment of the university in 2019. PSMC is committed to providing quality medical education while developing skilled, compassionate, and socially responsible healthcare professionals. The college offers the undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme, with an annual intake of 150 students. It also provides postgraduate MD and MS programmes across various medical and surgical specialities, offering more than 100 postgraduate degree seats. The programmes are recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), reflecting the institution's commitment to established standards of medical education and training. One of the distinguishing features of PSMC is its integrated approach to medical education. Teaching incorporates horizontal and vertical integration, case-based learning, clinical application, and system- and disease-based approaches. Students receive clinical exposure from the early stages of their education, along with opportunities such as village stays and community-based learning. The college also places considerable emphasis on professional ethics, empathy, communication, leadership, and overall personality development. PSMC has an experienced faculty with a strong research orientation, with its faculty members contributing more than 500 research publications in reputed scientific journals. The institution also maintains a central library and departmental museums supporting academic learning and research. The college has played an important role in faculty development and medical education. It was recognized as a Regional Centre for faculty development and later as a Nodal Centre for advanced medical education programmes. PSMC also became the first FAIMER education centre in India. Alongside academics, students are encouraged to participate in sports, cultural, literary, research, and community-service activities.
