All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri, located in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, is a premier public medical institution established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). As part of the AIIMS network, the institute is an autonomous public medical institution designated as an Institute of National Importance. AIIMS Mangalagiri was established with the broader objective of reducing regional disparities in the availability of quality tertiary healthcare and strengthening medical education and training in underserved regions. The institute began functioning in 2018 from a temporary campus at Government Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada. In March 2019, outpatient services commenced at its permanent campus in Mangalagiri, Guntur district. The institute subsequently expanded its healthcare and academic activities as facilities were developed. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AIIMS Mangalagiri also supplemented its outpatient services through initiatives such as e-Paramarsh, while inpatient services were gradually introduced for COVID-19 and other patients. AIIMS Mangalagiri is committed to an integrated approach to healthcare and medical education. Its core mission focuses on three major areas: education of diverse health professionals, research in biomedical sciences, and delivery of patient care at the highest level. The institute provides opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and aims to develop high standards of teaching and training across different branches of healthcare. The MBBS programme forms an important part of the institute's academic development. The early MBBS batches began their education at the temporary Vijayawada campus, while subsequent batches started their academic journey at the Mangalagiri campus. Along with medical education, the institute promotes biomedical research, clinical learning, professional development, and evidence-based healthcare. With its focus on medical education, advanced healthcare, biomedical research, and service to the community, AIIMS Mangalagiri is developing into an important centre for healthcare and medical training in Andhra Pradesh.
