Government Medical College, Miraj Government Medical College, Miraj, located in Miraj in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, is a well-established government medical institution with a long history in medical education and healthcare. The college began its journey in 1962 and was initially known as Miraj Medical College. Over the years, it has developed from a small institution into an important centre for medical education, clinical training and patient care in the region. The medical history of Miraj itself goes back much further. A government hospital was established in the city in 1864, creating an early foundation for healthcare services in the area. The medical college was later developed with the aim of strengthening medical education and providing trained doctors for society. Its first batch started with only 30 students, while the institution gradually expanded its academic facilities, departments and student intake over the following decades. Today, Government Medical College, Miraj offers undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. The college has an MBBS intake of 200 seats along with MD/MS postgraduate programmes recognised by the National Medical Commission. It is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, and functions under the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Maharashtra. Clinical exposure is an important part of the learning environment. The college is associated with Government Medical College Hospital, Miraj, and Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil Government Hospital, Sangli.
