Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College, Nanded Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital is a government medical education and healthcare institution located at Vishnupuri, Nanded, Maharashtra. Established in 1988, the college has developed over the years into an important centre for medical education, clinical training and healthcare services in the Marathwada region. The institution was initially started in the Vazirabad area of Nanded and was associated with Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Memorial Civil Hospital. It later shifted to its present Vishnupuri campus, with the new premises becoming functional in 2015. The college and hospital are spread across a large 115-acre campus. Its attached tertiary-care hospital has around 750 beds and serves patients not only from Nanded but also from nearby districts and areas bordering Telangana and Karnataka. This wide patient base gives medical students an opportunity to gain practical exposure to a diverse range of clinical cases. The campus includes academic and clinical facilities such as lecture halls, laboratories, departmental libraries, demonstration rooms, museums and a central library with a substantial collection of medical books. The hospital also provides diagnostic radiology, pathology and microbiology laboratory services, along with modern operation theatre facilities and computerized hospital management systems. For students, the institution provides separate hostel facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with mess, sports and recreational arrangements. The college offers undergraduate MBBS education through NEET-based admissions and also conducts postgraduate medical education in several specialties. The institution is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, and functions as a government-funded medical education and research centre.
