Government Medical College, Ongole – About the College Government Medical College, Ongole, formerly known as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), is a prominent government medical institution located in Ongole, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. The institution was established in 2011 with the objective of providing quality medical education, clinical training, and healthcare services to students and the surrounding community. Over the years, the college has developed into an important centre for medical education and patient care in the region. The foundation stone of the institute was laid on July 1, 2007, and it was initially established as a semi-autonomous institution under the name Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. In December 2018, it was officially converted into Government Medical College, Ongole. The first MBBS batch commenced in the 2011–12 academic session with 100 students. The college has subsequently expanded its academic offerings to include postgraduate medical education in various specialties. Its courses are conducted under the regulatory framework of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and its university affiliation is associated with Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences.
