Government Medical College Rajamahendravaram Government Medical College Rajamahendravaram is a government medical institution located in Rajamahendravaram (Rajahmundry), East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. The college was established as part of the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s initiative to strengthen medical education and healthcare infrastructure across districts. The government sanctioned the establishment of the medical college at the premises of the District Hospital, Rajamahendravaram, through G.O.Ms.No. 27 dated February 13, 2019. The college is affiliated with Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences and offers undergraduate medical education through the MBBS programme. According to the National Medical Commission, Government Medical College Rajamahendravaram was established in 2023 and has permission for 150 MBBS seats, with annual renewal permitted for the 2025–26 academic year. A major strength of the institution is its association with Government General Hospital, Rajamahendravaram, which serves as the teaching hospital for the medical college. The hospital was upgraded to a teaching hospital in June 2022 and has a sanctioned capacity of 500 beds. It provides a wide range of clinical services, including General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Anaesthesia, Pathology, Microbiology and other specialties. The hospital also provides facilities such as a blood bank, dialysis, MRI, 24-hour laboratory services, physiotherapy, trauma care and various public healthcare programmes. The college campus provides several student-oriented facilities, including separate Wi-Fi-enabled hostels for boys and girls, a library with books and e-content resources, digital classrooms, a canteen and dining facility, banking and ATM services, and a campus store. Sports and fitness facilities are also being developed, while an open-air theatre and auditorium are under construction. A student counselling centre is available to support students’ academic and personal well-being.
