Narayan Medical College & Hospital – Overview Narayan Medical College & Hospital (NMCH), located at Jamuhar in Rohtas district of Bihar, is a prominent medical education and healthcare institution serving communities across Bihar and neighbouring parts of Jharkhand. The institution is situated along the old Grand Trunk Road between Sasaram and Dehri-on-Sone and has developed across a campus of approximately 25 acres. The journey of NMCH began with the vision of providing accessible healthcare to people who lacked adequate medical facilities in the region. The foundation of this vision was laid through Narayan Chikitsalaya, a charitable healthcare initiative established under the Deo Mangal Memorial Trust. With growing demand for quality healthcare and medical education, the hospital was subsequently developed into Narayan Medical College & Hospital, combining patient care with medical teaching and research. NMCH received approval to commence its MBBS programme from the 2008–09 academic session. Initially approved for 100 MBBS seats, the intake was later increased to 150 seats from 2018. The institution focuses on developing competent medical professionals while promoting education, clinical training and research. The hospital is a major component of the institution, with more than 1,150 beds and a wide range of clinical departments. Services cover areas such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Dentistry, Cardiology, Neurology-related specialties, Urology, Nephrology and Gastroenterology. The hospital also provides round-the-clock emergency care along with critical-care facilities including ICU, NICU, PICU, SICU and specialized intensive-care units. NMCH is equipped with diagnostic and treatment infrastructure including pathology, microbiology and biochemistry services, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray and other radiological facilities. Its operation-theatre complex supports various surgical procedures, while specialized facilities such as a cath lab further strengthen its cardiac-care capabilities. Alongside academics and healthcare, the institution provides residential facilities, student hostels, sports and recreational infrastructure. Its broader objective is to make quality medical education and affordable healthcare accessible to the surrounding population while contributing to the development of skilled healthcare professionals for India.
