AIIMS Nagpur – About the Institute All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur is a centrally funded medical institution and an Institute of National Importance established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The institute was developed with the aim of improving access to quality tertiary healthcare while also creating better opportunities for medical education, training and research in the region. Located in the MIHAN area of Nagpur, Maharashtra, AIIMS Nagpur has gradually developed into an important healthcare and academic centre for Vidarbha and nearby regions. The institute started its academic and clinical activities in 2018 from the Government Medical College campus. It later shifted to its permanent MIHAN campus in September 2019, with hospital services expanding over the following years. Inpatient services began in 2020, and the institute was formally dedicated to the nation on 11 December 2022. The medical centre provides a wide range of specialised and tertiary healthcare services through different clinical departments. Its facilities include modern diagnostic services, intensive care units and modular operation theatres. Along with routine medical care, the institute is also involved in advanced procedures and specialised treatment, reflecting its growing role in Central India's healthcare system. Education is another major part of AIIMS Nagpur's development. The institute offers the MBBS programme along with postgraduate MD and MS courses and super-speciality programmes such as DM and MCh. It also provides programmes in nursing and allied health sciences, while research opportunities include PhD and post-doctoral programmes in selected areas. AIIMS Nagpur also focuses on research, innovation and community-oriented healthcare. Its collaborations with academic and healthcare organisations support interdisciplinary research and development. With continuing expansion in clinical facilities, research infrastructure and specialised centres, the institute is working towards becoming a comprehensive destination for medical education, advanced healthcare and biomedical research.
