ardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) is a prominent government medical institution located at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. The college was established by the Government of India in November 2001 and was formally inaugurated on 17 December 2001 by the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The first batch of MBBS students was admitted in February 2002. The college is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), New Delhi. VMMC operates in close association with Safdarjung Hospital, a major government hospital under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. According to the college's official website, the hospital has more than 1,550 beds, including bassinets, and records over 10 lakh outpatient visits annually. This large patient base provides medical students and postgraduate trainees with extensive clinical exposure across a wide range of specialties. The institution offers undergraduate, postgraduate and super-specialty medical education. While postgraduate MD/MS clinical programmes were already being conducted at Safdarjung Hospital before VMMC was established, postgraduate courses in pre- and para-clinical subjects were introduced in 2011. The institution also conducts DM and M.Ch super-specialty programmes The associated hospital provides services across numerous specialties and super-specialties, including cardiology, cardiac surgery, neurology, urology, nephrology, respiratory medicine, burns and plastic surgery, paediatric surgery and gastroenterology. Its facilities include advanced diagnostic and treatment services such as MRI, CT, angiography, angioplasty, dialysis, endoscopy and other specialized procedures. VMMC's educational mission emphasizes ethical medical practice, patient dignity, evidence-based healthcare, community health, research, emergency and disaster management, preventive and rehabilitative medicine, and continuous professional learning.
