### CHRIST (Deemed to be University) – History & Background CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has developed into a well-known multidisciplinary institution with its roots in the educational vision of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, a nineteenth-century educator and social reformer. The institution is administered by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), a congregation founded by him in 1831.
