AIIMS Bhubaneswar All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar is a prominent medical education and healthcare institution located in Odisha. It was developed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), a Government of India initiative aimed at improving advanced healthcare facilities and medical education in regions that needed greater access to specialised services. The foundation stone of AIIMS Bhubaneswar was laid on 15 July 2003. The institute was formally established as an autonomous institution and an Institute of National Importance in 2012 under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act. Its academic journey began in September 2012, when the first batch of MBBS students joined the newly established institute. AIIMS Bhubaneswar combines medical education, clinical training, research and patient care within the same institution. Its academic structure covers undergraduate, postgraduate, super-speciality and doctoral-level programmes. Students can pursue courses such as MBBS, B.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. Paramedical programmes at the undergraduate level, while postgraduate opportunities include MD, MS and MDS. The institute also offers DM, M.Ch., M.Sc. Nursing, Ph.D. and post-doctoral fellowship programmes in relevant areas. The institute's academic approach is not limited to classroom learning. Clinical exposure, practical training and research form important parts of medical education, allowing students and residents to gain experience in a healthcare environment. AIIMS Bhubaneswar also works towards developing high standards in medical teaching, healthcare services and scientific research. Over the years, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has grown into an important healthcare and academic centre serving patients from Odisha as well as neighbouring states. Its focus on education, specialised healthcare and research makes it a significant option for students looking to build a career in medicine and allied health sciences.
