History of B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad B. J. Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad, is one of Gujarat’s most recognised government medical institutions and has a history that goes back more than a century. The institution traces its beginning to **1871**, when it was established as the **Ahmedabad Medical School**. In its early years, the school was associated with Civil Hospital and started on a modest scale, with only 14 students being trained for hospital assistant roles. A significant development came in **1879**, when philanthropist **Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy** contributed Rs. 20,000 towards the institution. In recognition of his contribution, the school was renamed **B. J. Medical School**. Over the following decades, it gradually developed into a more advanced centre for medical education.
