History of AMC Medical Education Trust The A.M.C. Medical Education Trust (AMC MET) was established in August 2008 by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation with the objective of creating a dedicated and efficient administrative framework for managing medical education institutions. The Trust was formed as a separate organization to operate medical colleges and to reduce the financial as well as administrative burden on the Municipal Corporation. At the time of its formation, two existing medical colleges were brought under the Trust's management. AMC MET represents a distinctive model of medical education administration, being one of the first trusts of its kind established and operated by a municipal authority. It was designed to combine the strengths of government and private-sector organizational systems while maintaining a not-for-profit approach. With an independent administrative structure, the Trust enables faster decision-making, efficient implementation of policies, and streamlined management of educational institutions. Over the years, AMC MET has developed a structured administrative system consisting of a High Power Committee, Governing Body, and Executive Committee. These bodies are responsible for policy decisions, institutional governance, and the effective functioning of the colleges and associated healthcare institutions. The Trust's responsibilities extend across several areas of medical education and administration. These include recruitment and management of teaching faculty, promotions and transfers, admissions, human resource management, maintenance of service records, and development of educational facilities in accordance with applicable regulatory standards. AMC MET oversees institutions covering medical, dental, physiotherapy, and nursing education. Its functioning is guided by regulations and requirements established by bodies and authorities such as the Government of Gujarat, Government of India, Gujarat University, Central Admission Committee, Fee Regulatory Committee, and relevant professional medical and dental regulatory authorities. Today, AMC MET continues to play an important role in managing and strengthening medical education in Ahmedabad, with an emphasis on effective administration, quality infrastructure, professional education, and accessible healthcare-related academic institutions.

History of Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal is one of the well-known government medical institutions in Madhya Pradesh, with a history that goes back to the early years after Independence. The college was formally inaugurated on **13 August 1955 by Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri**. It began its academic journey with just **50 students** and two basic departments—Anatomy and Physiology. At the beginning, the college operated from the building of the S.V. Polytechnic College before developing its own campus. The foundation stone for the college's permanent building was laid on **15 September 1956 by Shri Govind Ballabh Pant**, the then Union Home Minister. Construction continued for several years, and the completed building was finally inaugurated by **Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 13 March 1963**. The campus was developed around the historic Fatehgarh Fort area near the Upper Lake, giving the institution a distinctive connection with Bhopal's history and architecture. The development of Gandhi Medical College has always been closely linked with its associated hospitals. **Hamidia Hospital** and **Sultania Zanana Hospital** became important clinical training centres for students. Hamidia Hospital, which was earlier known as the Prince of Wales Hospital, developed into a major multispeciality teaching hospital, while Sultania Hospital became associated with women's healthcare and obstetrics and gynaecology services. Over the decades, GMC Bhopal expanded beyond its initial two departments and developed a wider range of medical specialties, postgraduate programmes and advanced clinical facilities. The institution also reached important milestones such as its Silver Jubilee in 1980, Golden Jubilee in 2005 and Diamond Jubilee in 2015. Another significant step came in **1997, when the college received autonomous status**, marking an important phase in its administrative development. Today, Gandhi Medical College continues to function as an important centre for medical education, clinical training and patient care in Bhopal. Its long journey from a small college with 50 students to a large medical institution reflects the gradual growth of medical education and healthcare services in Madhya Pradesh.

History of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, was established with the vision of creating a high-quality centre for advanced medical treatment, education, training, and research in Bihar. The idea behind the institute emerged from the need to provide specialised healthcare within the state, as many patients from Bihar had to travel to major medical centres such as AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh and other institutions outside the region for treatment of serious and complex diseases. This created significant financial and logistical difficulties for patients and their families. To address this need, the Government of Bihar planned an institution modeled on the standards and structure of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The institute was formally established on 19 November 1983 and was named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The IGIMS Act, 1984 provided the institutional framework for developing the centre as an autonomous organisation focused on advanced medical services and healthcare education. From its inception, IGIMS was intended to function as an apex healthcare centre offering specialised and super-specialised medical services. Its objectives extended beyond patient care to include the training of medical specialists, postgraduate education, clinical research, community health research and improvement of healthcare services through better referral networks with medical colleges and hospitals across the state. The institute was planned as a large medical complex, with development proposed in multiple phases. The original plans envisioned a modern hospital with extensive infrastructure and a capacity of around 1,000 beds after completion. Different phases included departments covering areas such as cardiology, oncology, neurology, neurosurgery, paediatrics, endocrinology, mental health, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology and ENT, along with clinical and community research facilities. Over the years, IGIMS has developed into an important medical education and healthcare institution in Bihar. Its continuing focus on specialised treatment, teaching, research and community-oriented healthcare reflects the vision with which the institute was originally established. Today, IGIMS remains an important centre for advanced healthcare and medical education in the region.
